SK Summit on Education

The City Government of Calbayog in coordination with the DILG and DepEd will be conducting the 1st SK Summit of Education. The said activity will be held today at the DepEd Conference Hall. Expected to attend are the SK Chairpersons from the 157 barangays of Calbayog.

Among the topics / talks to included in today's program are the following:
  • State of Education in Calbayog City by Mrs. Edita Paculan (Calbayog City Schools Division Superintendent)
  • SK support to Education by Mr. Ubaldo Diomangay (DepEd ES 1 - PESS)
  • Keynote Speech on Education as a Top Priority in Calbayog City by Mayor Mel Sarmiento

The SK Federation President Charlie Boy Coñejos will deliver a welcome speech. DILG City Director Valente Bajet will present the activity's rationale. Mrs. Geronide Mancol will discuss the Budget Allocation of SK.

Calbayog co-hosts PCSO Charity Caravan

The city government of Calbayog co-hosted the PCSO Charity Caravan held on June 26, 2007. The activity which was held at the Jogger's Court was in line with PCSO's 75th anniversary celebration.

PCSO provided the medicines while the LGU provided the medical personnel who extended medical and dental services to more than 1,000 patients.

The day before the medical & dental mission, officials from PCSO regional office paid a courtesy call on Mayor Mel Sarmiento. They were accompanied by the City Health Officer, Dr. Cesar Sabenicio.

3rd Ecological Solid Waste Management Seminar Workshop

The 3rd Ecological Solid Waste Management Technical Workshop / Seminar was held at the Marju Krisel Function Hall on June 23, 2009.

Around 70 barangays officials and community stakeholders were on hand for the activity. Vice Mayor Ronald Aquino, in his capacity as Chair of the City Solid Waste Management Board delivered the welcome address. Mayor Mel Sarmiento was also on hand to deliver a message.

Discussed in the workshop were the following:

  • 3rd Year Activities of the Project (by Mr. Takashi Goto. JICA SWM expert)
  • City Solid Waste Management Plan (by Engr. Danilo Mado, Ass't CSWM Officer)
  • Operation / Maintenance of the Pilot Material Recovery Facility (by Mr. Ishmael Susmena, CSWMO TEAM Division Head)
  • IEC Camaigns for 2009 (by Ms. Anabelle Yangzon, DepEd Rep for Environmental Education)
  • Financial Evaluation / Waste Charge (by Councilor Julius Mancol, Chair of SP Committee on Finance)
  • Operation / Maintenance of Sanitary Landfill / Videop Lecture (by JICA experts)

JICA Midterm Evaluation Team visits Calbayog

(June 22, 2009) A 10-man JICA Mifterm Evaluation Team visited Calbayog to check on some JICA projects in the City. The said team which was headed by Shiro Amano paid a coutesy call on the Sangguniang Panlungsod before proceeding to Calbayog Sanitary Landfills in Barangay Gadgaran (Tomalon Estate) and Barangay Dinagan and the Material Recovery Facility in Barangay Payahan.

The JICA Team also met with their local conterparts at the I's Plant Function Hall for some updates on the projects.

Training on Meal Management and Food Handling

The City Government of Calbayog in coordination with the DOST and TTMIST has conducted a Training on Meal Management and Food Handling on June 16 -17 at the TTMIST AVR.

In attendance in the two-day activity were some members of the Calbayog Hotel and Restaurants Association (CAHORA), local caterers and students and instructors form TTMIST.

Resource persons included Engr. Rosella Gopo PSTD, DOST-Samar PSTC; Paula Huelar, SRS II, FNRI-DOST; Josefina Gonzales, SRS II, FNRI-DOST; and Regina Pagaspas, Sr. SRS, FNRI-DOST.

The following topics were tackled during the activity:
  • Basic Nutrition
  • Meal Planning / Planning a One-Week Menu Cycle
  • Food Buying
  • Food Storage
  • Food Preparation
  • Food Safety and Sanitation
  • Food Costing and Cost Control

A cooking demonstration on Squash recipes was also undertaken.
